A note about Health & Safety (H&S) ….

Each term the Principal, DFO and Corporate Services and Brand Identity Manager meet to discuss H&S topics affecting the Academy. In November we discussed the results of the latest H&S audit, which led to a number of actions, including the revision of our H&S objectives (see the latest Occupational H&S Policy and Management Manual on The Calc) and the completion of incident marshal training.

We also reviewed recent first aid reports and incidents. Thank you to all of you for ensuring that you report any accidents or incidents or near misses. This helps us to identify any common causes or trends, enabling us to prevent more accidents in the future. We also looked at the root causes of three higher risk incidents this term and agreed actions to address these.

Last Friday the H&S Working Party, which includes our H&S Link Governor, the TU Representative, and the Curriculum Leaders for PE, Science and Technology, held its termly meeting to review H&S at Chelsea Academy. The key project of work for this Group has been the review and update of risk assessments. Great progress has been made and the Group aims to have reviewed all the Academy’s key risk assessments by 20 January 2023. Please do let Jeni Cousans or Sara Hopkins know if there is a significant activity or area of the Academy which you feel should have a risk assessment. We will look to support you in putting one in place.

Please contact Jeni Cousans or Sara Hopkins with any comments or questions concerning H&S.
